Rock Slide Closing I-40 Near Asheville and the TN state line.

A rock slide on I-40 at mile marker 2.6 in the Smoky Mountains outside Asheville near the TN state line has disrupted traffic on I-40.  Both sides of I-40 have been closed, and DOT has recommended a nearly 140 mile detour.  This road closure is expected to last approximately three months.

Eastbound travelers should exit from I-40 onto I-81 North in Virginia. Take I-81 North, to I-26 East into Asheville. Then, transfer onto I-240 East, which connects to I-40 East.

Guests traveling to Highlands Condominiums:
If you're traveling South on I-81 or I-75 to I-40 near Knoxville, you should consider heading East on I-40 to Exit 435 in the city of Newport, TN. Take Exit 435 right onto HWY 321. Stay on HWY 321 into the town of Cosby, TN.  In Cosby, HWY 321 turns right and heads into Gatlinburg.  Travelers from the East, use Exit 435 and follow the directions above from Newport.
